Booking Terms & Cancellation Policy

Golden Sun Apartments · Pomorie, Bulgaria. Please read these terms carefully. By paying your deposit online, you accept the terms below.

1. Booking & deposit

To confirm your reservation, you pay a deposit online at the time of booking. The deposit is part of the total price of your stay — it is not an extra fee. The remaining balance is paid on arrival. Prices are shown in euro (EUR), with the Bulgarian lev (BGN) amount shown for reference.

2. Your deposit is non-refundable — but it is never lost

The deposit is non-refundable and will not be returned as a cash refund. However, your money is never lost. If you cannot travel on your reserved dates, simply let us know by phone or email before your arrival. Instead of cancelling your booking, we preserve the value of your deposit and the number of nights you reserved, so you can use them for another stay whenever it suits you (subject to availability). Book 5 nights and you keep 5 nights of holiday — no matter what.

3. Changing or moving your dates

You may move your reserved nights to different dates at any time by contacting us. You always keep the number of nights you originally booked, and you always pay the standard rate for the period you actually stay: • If your new dates fall in a higher-priced period (for example, moving from low to high season), you pay only the difference before your new stay. • If your new dates fall in a lower-priced period, you are charged less, and the difference is credited toward your stay or kept as credit for a future booking. • Your deposit is only ever reassigned to your new dates — it is never forfeited. In short: you always pay the correct standard value of the period you stay, and your deposit always counts toward it.

4. How to let us know

To move your dates or tell us you cannot make it, contact us as early as possible — and always before your check-in date — by phone at +359 ··· ··· ··· or by email at [email protected]. Please include your name and booking reference. We will confirm your preserved nights and any price difference in writing.

5. No-show

If you do not arrive and have not contacted us, your reserved nights are still held for you under the same terms — your deposit and nights are preserved for future use. We simply ask that you tell us as soon as you can, so we can offer the apartment to other guests and help you rebook.

6. Payment & balance

The deposit is paid securely online by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The remaining balance for your stay is payable on arrival. Any price difference for changed dates is payable before the new stay begins.

7. Check-in & check-out

Check-in and check-out times are confirmed with your booking. Early check-in and late check-out may be available on request, subject to availability.

8. Right of withdrawal

As an accommodation service booked for specific dates, this reservation is exempt from the standard EU 14-day right of withdrawal under Article 16(l) of Directive 2011/83/EU. The flexible date-change terms above apply instead, and are designed to protect the value of your booking.

9. Force majeure

If events beyond the control of either party — such as natural disasters, government travel restrictions or other extraordinary and unavoidable circumstances — prevent your stay, normal terms do not apply. In these cases your deposit and reserved nights are preserved without penalty, to be used on alternative dates. Please notify us in writing within a reasonable time.

10. Liability

Guests are responsible for any damage caused to the apartment or property during their stay. We are not liable for loss of or damage to personal belongings, except where caused by our negligence as required by law.

11. Data protection

We collect only the information needed to process your booking — your name, contact details, stay dates and payment data — and handle it in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Your details are never sold. Payment is processed securely by our payment provider.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Bulgaria. For cross-border consumer disputes, you may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

Pomorie Lake

The black mud people drive across Europe for

Pomorie Lake sits just north of town — a shallow, salt-heavy lagoon that has been producing salt and healing mud since Roman times. Locals wade in, paint themselves black, let the sun bake it dry, and rinse off in the sea. You can do exactly the same, free, minutes from your apartment.

What Pomorie Lake actually is

Pomorie Lake is a hyper-saline lagoon, cut off from the Black Sea by a narrow sand spit. The water is far saltier than the sea itself, and that salt has been worked here since antiquity — the town still has a working Salt Museum to prove it. Underneath the brine sits a bed of black mineral mud, built up over centuries. Salt and mud: that combination is the whole reason people make the trip.

The mud, and the lye

Two things come out of the lake: the black mud itself, and a concentrated salt brine locals call "lye" — луга. Both have been used here since Roman times. People come for mud and lye traditionally used to ease tired joints, tight muscles and skin after a long winter or a long drive. Nobody promises a cure. What you get is a thick, cool, mineral-rich mud on your skin, a hot sun to dry it, and a swim in the sea to rinse off — a routine repeated on this shore for two thousand years.

Free and public, or supervised and professional

There are two ways to do this. The free public mud zone at the lake is exactly that — free, open, self-service. Walk in, scoop the mud, apply it yourself, let it dry in the sun, then rinse off. Or, if you want it supervised, Pomorie has professional balneology and rehabilitation centres in town offering guided mud and lye treatments as part of a proper programme. Both draw from the same lake.

When to go

Outdoor mud season runs roughly June to September, when the sun is strong enough to bake the mud dry on your skin. The indoor clinics run treatments closer to year-round, which is why Pomorie also fills with wellness guests in May, June, September and October — visitors who come for the lake first and the beach second.

More than a spa — a protected wetland

Pomorie Lake is also a protected wetland, and a genuinely good spot for birdwatching. Migrating flamingos have been seen on the lake in recent years, alongside the usual coastal wading birds. Stick to the marked mud zone and you're not disturbing anything — the lake works hard enough for the salt and the mud without visitors wandering off the path.

Getting there from Golden Sun

The lake is a few minutes from Golden Sun Apartments — close enough that a morning at the mud baths and an afternoon at the beach fit into the same day. Come back, rinse off properly, and your own kitchen and shower are waiting. Mud in the morning, sea in the afternoon, your own place in between.

FAQ

Pomorie mud baths — questions people ask

Is the mud at Pomorie Lake free?
Yes. The public mud zone at the lake is free and self-service — you apply the mud yourself. The professional balneology centres in town charge for supervised treatments.
What is the mud traditionally used for?
People come here for mud and lye traditionally used to ease joints, tight muscles and skin. It's not a medical treatment or a cure — it's a routine that's been part of life on this coast since Roman times.
When is mud season at Pomorie Lake?
Outdoor mud season runs roughly June to September, when there's enough sun to dry the mud on your skin. Indoor clinics in town run treatments closer to year-round.
How far is Pomorie Lake from Golden Sun Apartments?
Just a few minutes away — close enough to fit the mud baths and the beach into the same day.
Do I need to book a clinic, or can I just walk in?
Both are options. The public mud zone needs no booking — walk in and use it free. The professional balneology and rehabilitation centres in town take bookings for supervised treatments.
Is Pomorie Lake safe to visit?
Yes — it's a protected wetland as well as a mud-bathing site, home to migrating flamingos and other birds in recent years. Stick to the marked mud zone and you'll see both the wildlife and the mud at their best.
Free mud zone or sanatorium — what's the difference?
The free zone at the lake is self-service — you scoop the mud and apply it yourself. Sanatoriums and balneology centres in town offer supervised medical-grade treatments. Both walk-in free admission and a referral route exist. Prices are set by each centre — check directly with them.
What is lye (luga) and where can you buy it?
Lye is a concentrated brine drawn from the lake. It's traditionally used to soothe skin and joints, like the mud. It's sold in bottles, including at pharmacies across Bulgaria.
When is the calmest time to visit the mud baths?
July and August are busiest. June and September are calmer, with the sea still warm enough for a rinse afterwards.
